The Easy Riders can be hired for fun day trips around Hué, and the cost is very reasonable (about US8$ a day around the city, or US$10 around the outskirts). You can also make arrangements with them for longer trips around the Central Highlands (Thien An Lake is a very popular spot) or down the coast. Some have adopted their drivers and ridden with them all the way north to Hanoi (5 day trip)!
Here is one letter received from a Lonely Planet Reader:
"The best part of my trip toVietnam was the day i spent with an indepent guide in Hué. The guides approached my friends and I at our hotel, and we were hesitant at first to ride behind strangers on motorbikes. Luckily, they were able to convince us to go with them. We had a fantastic day seeing the sites around Hué. They ended up being careful drivers who provided an insight into Vietnam that we couldn't get on the guided bus tour."

Travelling with the Easy Riders is a great way to explore the region, and having a friendly and articulate guide can really help put things into perspective. You can usually find the Easy Riders hanging around hotels in Hué but don't worry about looking; they will find you. All of them speak English, and some can speak French and German. Most of the Easy Riders carry portable guestbooks containing raving testimonials from past clients.
